Copper green decoration introduction
A few of these lead glazed wares, whitened with a tin opacifier and decorated with in-glaze copper, had been recorded from Indonesia, but it was not known what they were.
In 1984 hundreds of pieces were excavated at the Tak Hilltop Burial Sites.
The inspiration for these wares is more likely to have come from the Middle East than China. All the wares from these burial sites are dated from the middle of the 14th to the middle of the 16th centuries.
Their Burmese provenance is secure although detailed work at the kilns has not been undertaken.
