Other Ceramics introduction
Ceramics from Laos, the Khmer Empire and Champa, are poorly represented in the collection. Kilns were first reported in Laos at Sisattanak near Vientiane in 1965. Unglazed stoneware, some pieces with a watery green glaze and pipes were made, probaply in the 16th - 17th centuries. Kilns have also been reported from the region of Luang Prabang.
Khmer ceramics, many of which were made in what is today the north -east of Thailand were probably produced from the 9th -13th centuries.
The ancient kingdom of Champa was obliterated by the Vietnamese in 1471. Kilns have been found at Go-Sahn. |
